About the UGREEN CM257 (60561)

The UGREEN CM257 is a USB-A 3.0 to SATA adapter designed for connecting one compatible 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD to a computer. It supports SATA I, II and III drives, USB 3.0 data rates up to 5Gbps and UASP on compatible systems. The integrated 50cm cable offers convenient access to internal storage, while a dedicated 12V DC input supports the external power required by standard 3.5-inch hard drives.

Design & Performance

USB 3.0 Data Transfer up to 5Gbps

The UGREEN CM257 connects through a USB 3.0 Type-A interface, offering a theoretical data signaling rate of up to 5Gbps. This makes it suitable for transferring photographs, videos, documents and other files between compatible SATA storage and a computer.

Actual file transfer speeds depend on the drive, USB controller, host system and file characteristics. Older USB ports operate at their supported lower speeds.

Support for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA Drives

The converter supports standard 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and HDDs as well as 3.5-inch SATA hard drives. Its SATA III interface is backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I drives, making it useful for accessing storage from different generations of computers.

The connector is designed for conventional SATA drives. It does not directly support M.2 NVMe, M.2 SATA, IDE or SAS storage devices.

UASP for Efficient Storage Performance

USB Attached SCSI Protocol, commonly called UASP, can improve storage command handling when supported by the computer, operating system and connected drive. This is especially useful for compatible SSD-based file transfer and backup workflows.

UASP support does not guarantee a particular transfer speed. Performance remains limited by the drive and the capabilities of the USB connection.

External 12V Power for 3.5-inch Hard Drives

Most compatible 2.5-inch SATA drives can receive sufficient power directly from the USB connection. Standard 3.5-inch SATA hard drives require an additional 12V power supply, which connects through the converter’s dedicated DC input.

The UGREEN CM257 (60561) manufacturer’s product sheet specifies a separate 12V/2A power adapter for 3.5-inch drives. This adapter is not included in the standard 60561 configuration. Use only a compatible supply with the correct voltage, connector and polarity.

Convenient Backup and Storage Upgrades

The CM257 provides direct access to a SATA drive without installing it inside a desktop computer or separate enclosure. It can help users copy files from an older drive, migrate accessible data to replacement storage or prepare an SSD during a computer upgrade.

The adapter is also useful for temporary file backups and basic drive troubleshooting. Always finish active transfers and safely eject the connected drive before disconnecting it.

Compact 50cm Cable and Easy Setup

The integrated 50cm USB cable makes the CM257 convenient for desktop storage access and portable computer maintenance. Its compact black adapter body connects directly to the combined SATA data and power contacts of a compatible drive.

The converter is designed for plug-and-play operation on supported operating systems. When using an exposed hard drive, place it on a stable, nonconductive surface and avoid moving mechanical drives during operation.

Who It’s For

Computer Technicians: Access SATA drives during maintenance and repairs. Laptop Owners: Transfer data from old drives after storage upgrades. Desktop Users: Connect compatible spare SATA HDDs externally. Office Professionals: Back up important documents and files. Home Users: Retrieve photos and videos from existing storage. IT Support Teams: Prepare and troubleshoot compatible SATA drives.
